Can life be free of crisis? We all know that life can never be free of crisis, but a time has to come in our life as individuals, that we should live in all-round peace. We can personally make efforts to live without crisis in this crisis-filled life; if as individual, we can follow a suggestion from some experts.

They believe there are four generations of time management, which they put into four quadrants:

Quadrant 1: Urgent and Important;

Quadrant 2: Not Urgent but Important;

Quadrant 3: Urgent but Not Important;

Quadrant 4: Not Urgent, Not Important.

1. When something is URGENT AND IMPORTANT. It depicts Crisis or Problems. Effective people need to avoid this by doing the important things when they are yet not urgent. Examples of these activities that may become urgent and important are reports to make out, meetings to go to, correspondence to answer, phone calls to make, etc.

2. When something is NOT URGENT BUT IMPORTANT. It depicts Prevention. “Prevention is better than cure.” They say. Effective people are not problem-minded, they’re opportunity minded. Quadrant 2 is the heart of effective personal management.

3. URGENT BUT NOT IMPORTANT & NOT URGENT, NOT IMPORTANT. Effective people stay out of Quadrants 3 and 4 because urgent or not, they are NOT IMPORTANT. People who spend time almost exclusively in these quadrants basically lead IRRESPONSIBLE lives.

“Everyone that is to live a crisis-free life, as said earlier should concentrate in things and activities that are not urgent but important.”

  • You don’t need to be sick before you go for medical checkup.
  • You don’t need to have a tooth ache before you visit your dentist.
  • Food doesn’t need to be costly before you start buying in bulk.
  • Before your landlord send you packing, think of and take action on building your own house.
  • Before you are sacked through downsizing, think of practicing entrepreneurship while you are still working.
  • Before your children enter school, think of setting a particular amount of money aside for that purpose.
  • Before physical death (at around 120 years) or 2nd Coming of Christ, think of giving your life to Him.
  • Before you retire, besides your Retirement Savings Account (RSA), invest a particular percentage of your earnings in Money Market. You can invest in mutual funds, stocks, bonds, treasury bills and REIT (Real Estate Investments Trust).

Philip E. Humbert in “Making Money, Creating Wealth” said, “The stock market always rises steadily over a long period of time. In fact, by most measures, the stock market has made more people more money, and done it more readily, than any other investment over the past 75 years! If you want to accumulate substantial wealth, you must include stocks in your investments!’

To live a crisis-free life, concentrate on things and activities that are important before they become urgent. “Prevention is better than cure!”
