Obedience, Humility and Industry Had Never Stopped Elevating People: Stop looking for promotion all around, you only need to be focused on your official assignments; that is where your promotion lies.

And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him. Mathew 4: 21 & 22.

I was actually ruminating on these two verses after reading the whole chapter. Why were James and John with their father fishing?
Why did they leave the ship and their father and followed Jesus?

I don’t know the exact age of James and John, but I know they are of age. Yet they were humble enough to go fishing with their father. The followed every piece of instruction given to them by their father. They were actually with their father learning the nitty-gritty of the trade; as he was directing them, “throw your net to this side, they were doing it. Whenever he told them to stop in order to mend the net, they did not argue with him. How many children of this generation are ready to take instruction from their parents, elderly ones, and constituted authority?

Their obedience was also confirmed when Jesus Christ called them in order to enlist them as part of His army as fishers of men. These are the kind of people God was looking for in order to bless them.

Coming to the secular Word, the bosses are looking for obedient workers to promote and to elevate. They are looking for those that keep to the rules and regulations of the company. They are looking for those that are not saboteurs in their place of work to promote. Stop looking for promotion all around; you only need to be focused on your official assignments; that is where your promotion lies. Do the work as if it is yours. See the way James and John were doing their father’s work as if it was theirs.

It is when you handle the job as if you are the employer; as if you are a partner in the business – an active partner for that matter, that is when you would be treated as one, and the management would be looking for you with the desired promotion.
