“Every cleared road you tread is made so by someone. Maybe it was formerly a jungle.”
Hence, there is need for having a mentor, a hero, an advisor, and a spiritual father. Those are your forerunners. A forerunner is someone that has been there before you. He is someone that had done what you about to do before. He is somebody that you can emulate. He is somebody that makes your work easier.
Jesus had a forerunner in person of John the Baptist.
The wish of a good leader is always that the one coming after him is mightier. Though, there is always a sacrifice attached. To win the prize, there is always a price to pay. John the Baptist is always called the forerunner of Jesus Christ. He said in Matthew 3:11 – “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire.”
Jesus paid the price of greatness: He treated John the Baptist with respect. He was humbled before him and allowed him to baptize him with water. Who is Your John the Baptist? Is it your brother? Your father? Your mother? Or your predecessor at work? You have to treat them with respect and honour to be great in life.
Jesus also patterned his life after that of Melchizedek.
It has been a very good move to pattern your life after a successful entity in life, your field, and your place of work, so that you can get to where they have got to and even beat their record. Hebrews 6:20 – Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.
